John Shellene

Chairman of the Board

John leads the family office practice at Saville. In this role, he works directly with families and their advisory teams to provide financial organization, comprehensive reporting, risk assessment, multi-generational leadership planning, and closely-held business support. In May of 2010, he was appointed to the Dallas City Planning Commission as the representative for District 10. He served as the chairman for the City of Dallas Zoning Ordinance Committee. He has also served as chairman of the City of Dallas Urban Design Advisory Committee, board chair of the SMU Mechanical Engineering Board, board chair for the Richland College Department of Engineering, and more.


Matt Smith

Matt Smith is Senior Director of the PepsiCo Foundation.  In his role, Matt leads the PepsiCo Foundation’s global partnerships to increase equitable access to food, water and economic opportunity. Under Matt’s leadership, Food for Good has grown to serve communities all across the U.S., creating hundreds of jobs preparing and delivering more than 50 million nutritious meals since 2009. Matt and his wife, Erica, have three children.  They are members of Eastside Community Church and have been Lake Highlands residents for more than 15 years.  The Smith family is excited to love, serve and learn from our neighbors through City of Refuge!

Gilbert Aranza

Gilbert Aranza is the President and CEO of Star Concessions, Ltd., a food and beverage operator and management company that owns and operates food and beverage and retail concessions at airports, primarily Dallas Love Field and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.  Franchised and licensed concepts include Campisi’s, Cantina Laredo, Chili’s, Maggiano’s Little Italy, Pizza Hut and Whataburger.

Mike Reinsel

An experienced entrepreneurial leader, Mike Reinsel enjoyed a successful 20-year business career in various segments of the Atlanta real estate market before successfully transitioning into the social enterprise space. In 2008, Reinsel permanently left the for-profit environment and has held executive leadership roles with Apartment Life and Men of Nehemiah in Dallas, TX, as well as a six-year CEO role with Mission: Hope, an international community development organization based in Atlanta, GA on the campus of City of Refuge in Atlanta. In 2019, Reinsel and his wife Christina were recruited by local leaders to relocate to Dallas to launch CORLH.


Derrich Phillips

Derrich Phillips is a bestselling author, combat veteran, husband, and proud father. He’s dedicated to helping youth break the cycle of generational poverty. Derrich served in Iraq and Afghanistan, and has led cybersecurity teams at various Fortune 500 Companies. Presently, Derrich works as an Information Security Officer at Bank of America. In addition, Derrich serves on the Dallas Permit and License Appeal Board, and he is an adjunct professor for the Prison Entrepreneurship Program.

Stephen Holley

Stephen Holley is a development partner at Stillwater Capital, where he is responsible for all industrial developments. Prior to joining Stillwater Capital in August 2020, Holley spent six years in the Navy as a SEAL officer based in Coronado, CA before starting and running an e-commerce company. Holley has been recognized by the Dallas Business Journal through the 40 under 40 Award and has received the Dallas Foundation’s Good Works Under 40 Award.

Aaron McCardell

Aaron is a bi-vocational pastor who was raised in the Hamilton Park/Lake Highlands area of Dallas, TX. He has been employed in the field of proprietary education administration since 1994 and has served concurrently in ministry and corporate America since 2003. Aaron has worked for DeVry University & The Art institute of Houston in Texas, California and Florida. Presently, Aaron serves as the Vice President of Admissions & Marketing for Ogle School and is the founding pastor of the Life Church-DFW. Aaron has been married to his college sweetheart, Stacy for 30 years and they have 4 children--2 adult daughters, a college-age daughter & middle school son.
